Women

Sport England reveals 2.4 million fewer women enjoy physical activity than men.

The latest Active Lives Survey from Sport England shows 26% of women in Swindon do less than 30 minutes of activity per week.

The Chief Medical Officer recommends adults aged between 19-64 should take part in 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week. This can include daily activities which leave you slightly out of breath, not just organised physical activity/sport.

Common exercise barriers for women include:
  • lack of time
  • lack of motivation
  • parenting demands
  • lack of energy
  • health conditions
  • lack of money
  • gender stereotyping

Recent research found key factors which need to be addressed to make women enjoy being active and increase activity levels:

Safe, social, suitable, self-affirming
